The existing Certified Sweet™ and Certified Extra Sweet™ flavor designations are now joined by Certified Medio™ and Certified Sizzler™. Collins, GA March 26, 2006 - A petition for a "Writ of Mandamus” was filed in the Fulton County Georgia Superior Court by a number of Vidalia onion growers against the longstanding Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture, Tommy Irvin. In this unusual legal maneuver, a group of hostile growers are requesting that a judge order the commissioner to prohibit the use of the National Onion Labs Certified Sweet™ and Certified Extra Sweet™ flavor designations in association with Vidalia® onions. A hearing will be held on March 31, 2006 at the Fulton County Courthouse.
